What's Your Favor?
Whether you’re having a party or a wedding, favors are a fun way to thank your guests for coming. I’m often asked if favors are necessary. My answer is no, not necessary. After all, you are providing them with a fun day or evening, complete with food and drinks. However, sending your guests home with a small gift at the end of your event is a “finishing touch” worth considering.
What to give? ………the possibilities are endless. Most popular is the edible favor. They are often budget -friendly and can be packaged in many fun, colorful ways. Personalized M&M’s, favorite cookies, and truffles are a sweet ending to your special event. Other fun “food” can include tins of coffee, jellies/jams, and favorite seasonings, like hot sauce.
Lots of favors are theme-specific. I’ve had cow bells for a barn wedding, castle candles for a Cinderella wedding, and little trees for a green wedding. Quite often the couple’s wedding colors are incorporated into the packaging of the favor, whether it’s ribbon or boxes that match the overall color and theme.
Photo booths are becoming more and more popular. Many couples choose to have the fun photo booth picture serve as their favor (it also makes for a great guest book!). Other popular and fun ideas….beer cozies, votive candles, hand painted wine glasses (yes they gave them to all the guests!), bottle stoppers, picture frames, and personalized stones.
Many couples are now choosing to make a donation to a favorite charity, in lieu of a tangible favor for guests. Guests can be notified of this donation via small cards or bookmarks that are given out at the event. Guests can then be offered the opportunity to make further donations to the couple’s favorite charity.
Lots of couples are choosing to create their own favors. With just a little “craftiness”, creative and personal gifts can be made. Add a little help from friends and family and a terrific favor is born!
