You get engaged and start the planning your wedding.  Suddenly you realize you have no idea what you are doing, where to start, or who to call.  Many brides and grooms trod on “figuring out” how to plan by researching, gong online, looking through bridal magazines, asking friends, or just “winging it”.  Many newly-engaged never even think of using a wedding planner or assume it’s not in the budget.   I’d like to suggest that having a wedding planner will save you time (it can take from 120-250 hours to plan a wedding).  A wedding planner will save you stress.   Yup, planning a wedding has been known to be a bit hairy.  And, believe it or not, a planner can save you money.  After thinking about this a bit and considering the possibility of utilizing a planner’s services, you may decide that a planner is right for you.  Here are some things to consider when you are seeking the perfect planner.

I had the privilege of working with Tiffany and Chad on their wedding this past fall.  I knew it was going to be a fun wedding when I was waiting at the church for the bridal party to arrive.   Around the corner came a Ravens Fan Bus with Fan Man and Maniac at the helm.  Long-time Ravens fans, Tiffany and Chad thought it would be fun to forgo a traditional limousine and have the wedding party be transported Ravens-style.  I heard them coming before I saw them, as the loudspeaker announced their arrival.  Fan Man and Maniac delivered Chad and the groomsmen to the church full of smiles and ready for the ceremony.

When people learn I’m an event planner, comments usually are “Wow.  That sounds like so much fun.” Or, “I’ve always wanted to do that”.  Or, “what a cool job.”  I agree!  Here’s a little about me and how I arrived at the decision to become a wedding planner………….

I was a social worker in the health care industry for 16 years working in addictions, mental health, and inpatient hospital care.  I learned so much and really enjoyed my career.  During this time I got married to a wonderful guy, Greg, and then had two beautiful daughters, Claire and Jenna.  I cut back my hours to part-time in attempt to “balance” life at work and at home.   Greg’s job requires extensive travel, so after about a year of part-time in a traditional job, we decided it would be best if I stopped work in the hospital all together to be home with the kids.  At the same time, I was working as a representative for an in-home party company.  I was having great success in sales and had built a team of great folks.  It was a lot of fun and I got that “me time” that so many stay-at-home parents desire.  Unfortunately, the company folded 6 months later.
